We use no nasty solvents in this product. As a result the dry film is non-toxic. Used by manufacturers and DIY since the early 90s. Haarlem Danish Oil has even found its way to Scott Base for a resoration project-"cool" aye. Uses- Interior/Exterior Suitable for all furnature, benchtops, floors, trims, sarking and outdoor furnature. Ideal for coffee tables as the cured finish will not mark with hot cups or mugs. APPLICATION For new furniture apply the first coat of Haarlem Danish Oil generously by cloth, brush, speed brush, roller or spray. Allow 24 hours drying (in good conditions this can be shorter) before applying a second coat. Oily rags can self ignite, hang out to dry or drop into a bucket of water. Second coat-when applying to finer finishes, first sand with a 220 grit sandpaper or finer, (steel wool may be used). The finer the grit, the smoother the finish. Dust the surface off and apply the second coat of Haarlem Danish Oil. Alternatively the second coat can be applied with 4x0 steel wool or a fine synthetic souring pad. Buff off 'ALL' surplus oil within a few minutes with a soft ,dry, lint free cloth. Re-coating at too early an interval, or not wiping surplus oil off as described can leave a sticky, or a bright/dull surface. For sarking or rough sawn panelling one coat may be sufficient. Using Haarlem Danish Oil on Previously Finished WorkPreviously oiled surfaces can be lightly sanded, or dusted and cleaned before application. The choice of how heavily to sand or apply the Haarlem Danish Oil is up to the individual. One coat should only be necessary for wall panelling, sarking or similar, and maybe a second for furniture or tables. Apply following the advice for given new work above. It is advisable to oil a sample patch to check for compatibility. Varnished or lacquered surfaces will not accept the application of Haarlem Danish Oil. Using Haarlem Danish Oil on FlooringSANDING: 1ST COAT It is important for proper drying to buff the entire surface after a few minutes with a clean dry cloth.Let this first coat dry for at least 24 hours with adequate ventilation. OILY RAGS MAY SELF COMBUST, dip into water or hang out to dry. 2ND COAT 3RD COAT NOTE: For hardwood flooring it is recommended that both the second and third coats of Haarlem Danish Oil are diluted with 10 - 15% of vegetable turpentine. Hardwoods are Eucalyptus, Kwila, Iroko, Rata, Pohutukawa, Oak, Beech, etc. Oil absorption rates for these woods are lower. COVERAGE AND HANDLINGThe first coat on new work covers approximately 8 square metres per litre of Haarlem Danish Oil, the second coat up to 16 square metres. Haarlem Danish Oil is a flammable liquid. Keep containers out of direct sunlight and liquid product away from open flames. Wash brushes in vegetable turpentine, and with soap and water. DO NOT throw freshly used cloth rags, sponges, or similar in the rubbish or leave lying on wood. They very readily ignite! Wash them in water and then hang out to dry. |
